Pilot Wyatt. Copilot Daniel.

It's amazing what fun can be had with a "egg carton" airplane and some string.

DANCE!

These are from Mary Margaret's Wedding reception back in September. Wyatt's main dance partner is his cousin, Owen.
It goes without saying that they had a blast!

Traces of Wyatt

Keys lined up on the floor, from smallest to largest

Cave (first white pillow) into the fort, on to the slide into the "water" (little pillows)

"Decorations" for Christmas (blue string)

The fact that I have a picture of a tractor on my phone.

Boots with and without

I'm not sure why,
(maybe it's the boots)
but there is something that is extra cute when little ones get all bundled up,
as well as when they take most of it off.

Look up there, It's a bird, It's a plane, no, It's Wyatt.

Cats

Two sleepy boys

As most of you know, Wyatt has a pet cat named Daniel. He loves Daniel, and some of the time Daniel will tolerate Wyatt's love. Everyday Wyatt feeds his cat and gives him water. We have a system now where I will pull down the bag of cat food for him with a scoop in it and fill up a watering can that he can then poor in. (This works much better than Wyatt climbing up the stepstool to get in the sink to get the water, or the times Wyatt has poured the whole bag of food out for Daniel to eat.)
At a thrift store, we picked up a tiny notebook of blank pages for him to write on that has a cat on the front of it. The other day, he was "reading" to me about what it says about cats:
"Cats eat food and drink water"
"Cats have shark claws." (no that was not a spelling error, shark= sharp)
"

And while Wyatt says we will have a dog one day, he truly loves cats.

Found by chance, Wyatt thinks that this is a hysterical video.

Trick or Treat (otherwise know as "Candy?")

A few weekds before Haloween Wyatt decided that he was going to be a green dump truck with yellow sand for Halloween. Thankfully, my mind works best for artsy projects (instead of understanding written or verbal instructions) and I knew if we had a box, we could have a dump truck. Wyatt helped transform our box by assisting in the green painting as well as the sand painting.
We went trick or treating with Grant and Reid, because Wyatt thought going with Grant would be great fun. And as expected it was. The first house he went to, he held out his bag and said, "Candy?" In the square, he got to play some carnival games and slide down the big bouncy slide. And we hit the mother load trick or treating at Jack's house.

Dancing in his candy
He really loved being a dump truck, but loved getting candy even more. Since we don't eat much candy it seemed to be an incredible treat. Although it is really more the idea of candy that he likes best, as he would take a lick of more than half of his candy and discard it, saying "not good."
He also sorted out almost half of what he thought he would not like to "give to Ma's children (at school).

He had just as much fun counting his candy in Spanish as he did eating it :)

What's Wyatt been eating?

"grain-free cereal bar"
So the past few months we have been battling Wyatt's itchy eczema. Trying nearly every home remedy that I could think of, without sucess, we went to a naturopath a few weeks ago. In an effort to help heal his system from the inside out, she recommended eating mostly paleo (no grains, dairy, or refined sugar). So that is where we have been the last month -- in the kitchen. So in addition to soups, veggies, and meet, we have experimented with some fun foods as well. Wyatt likes to help with mixing and cracking eggs. We have had some successful new recipes like "grain-free" cereal bars ("Yum, yum" said Wyatt), and some not so successful ones like, crispy chicken tenders ("Yuck," was Wyatt's reply). And lately all things he has liked have been, "De-lic-ious!"
He gets a special orange drink, with his multivitamin, vitamin D3, and probiotics. Upon completion of finishing his drink night and day, he gets a "SPECIAL TREAT" (as he would shout out) --
A gummy fish oil (thankfully at this age he thinks it is "de-lic-ious".

"grain-free waffles"
He was still having issues with itching (keeping us both up at night) so last week I made a concoction with some different oils, butters, and infused them with several dried flowers, and I am so thankful to say that he has gone 3 nights & days without itching! I am hoping I am not celebrating this success too soon, but I am hopeful!

Dirt

As an adult, one might be not so pleased with having to have much of your yard dug up to look for a leaky pipe.
But for a child, it is an instant play place:
glorious dirt!
And as it gets cooler, our beach toys have turned into our dirt toys.
There is probably only one thing that is better than dirt,...mud!

the ever-so-long waiting for the Wedding Party

Pjs & his suit
"Ready to go."
Thursday night we rode to Alice's.
He chose the long neck tie.
A few days before Mary Margaret's Wedding, we started talking about her Wedding Party. It started when we picked up his new pinstripe navy suit at Alice's house. He loved his suit and did not want to take it off. (Remember the picture of the tractor he rode in a few posts back? He was wearing his suit for that tractor ride.) I did convince him to take off his suit that night, though he really wanted to sleep in it. The next night he woke me up several times asking if it was time to go yet.
I drew a picture of a boy in a long tie and one in a bow tie, and I asked him which he preferred. He picked the long tie. Later, he said that he could go to work with his daddy. I asked him what kind of tie he wanted and he said a "shape" tie (Loving his shapes thanks to Team Umizoomi. {that's a tv show.}) As much as he loves purple, I ordered a purple geometric print in the mail.
A few days later we found his shoes at a consignment shop. And then he was ready. The only problem was,....he had to wait a few more days till it actually happened. Thursday night I had to ride over to the Wooten's to drop something off, so he put his suit over his pajamas, for a little pre-celebrating. He got to hang out with Grant & Jack at their house the night of the rehearsal. And the next morning, he was rearing to go at 9am when I left to do the makeup. Instead he went with Pa, Ma, & Kate's to Ed's Grill for some breakfast, where he instructed Kate what to take pictures of.

Where's Wyatt?

As the sheets were in the wash, Wyatt found a great use for the pillows:
they made the perfect hiding place.

Where's Wyatt?
A closer look.

I was instructed to "hide" too.
Yes, I am in the basket.
Now, where can he be?

A cut above

Wyatt's new favorite skill is cutting with scissors.
This is a picture he did all by himself at the Smart Start Learning Center (or as we call it, the "play place".) I was really impressed that he colored the top green and the bottom brown. Then, he was instructed to color the leaves many colors, cut them out, and glue them on his tree page. He didn't quite get the concept of cutting around each leaf, but I think he did an impressive job. (Granted I am his mom, so I am sure I am a little biased.)

He loves to cut paper at home as well. We do get the vacuum cleaner out a bit more often now.
My Mama said, you know if he starts cutting, he might cut his hair. That hasn't happened so far, but he did try to cut Daniel's hair once. Thankfully I came to the rescue before any damage was done.

Owen's Birthday party

Wyatt
Owen
A few weeks ago, we went down to SC to celebrate Owen's birthday. Owen turned 3 as well as he is one month and 3 days younger than Wyatt. We had the best time!! There were lots of cousins, there was lots of outside time with little boys running (and bigger boys running to, and Charlotte. Kate even joined the action.) I didn't run, but I did do a few cartwheels. They got to feed the chickens and get an egg from the henhouse, see the kittens, and even hold a few of them. Balloons and hotdogs and burgers, and party favors, not to mention cake and ice cream. Wyatt had a ball!

Hang in there, Wyatt has a winning run at the very end. The theory was Jack and the 3 little boys played against Connor and Charlotte. Reid was on the sidelines watching a cat.

Jam session & Pedal to the metal

Jam session: 2 recorders (or "corder" as Wyatt calls it.)
Watch him try to move his fingers like Pa.
Probably his favorite instrument that he owns,
his favorite use is to blow it in my ear to get me to wake up and get out of bed.

Pedal to the metal (actually plastic).
He typically goes faster than this.

"Won't you please, won't you please, please, won't you be,... my neighbor"

We decided to have a scooter ride (as we do quite often, although I think this particular day he chose his tricycle), before I could get my shoes on, Wyatt ran into the room with a jar of peanut butter and a spoon for a "snack", since we were out of peanut butter crackers. After we rounded the turn to the "smooth" road and we were at the stop sign, he decided it was time to have our snack (this was about a block from home),so we sat in the shade and ate. (I did convince him that we could make our own pb crackers, so that is what we had.)
After passing the stop sign, we found Santi playing in his yard. His sister Ana joined us soon after that, and we were all off to Kate's house for an icey pop picnic, since their mom said that they could go. Since it was such a hot day, the children decided to have 2 rounds of icey pops. Then, it was back to Ana & Santi's house to play. Wyatt played minions with Santi, and they slid down the slide, jumped on the trampoline, and swung on the swings. They all had a great time playing together. And my favorite part is that none of it was planned, it just happened ,as life has a wonderful way of putting the pieces together once you get going.

A shopping day & Wyatt's new nook

I have been working this week on our room, making sure it is "just so."
After moving some furniture around and a day of thrift store shopping. Wyatt now has more space to play and can get to his toys easier. I have also taken out over half of his toys to rotate them in, so he can manage what he has better.

lunch break on our shopping day

He was a trooper on our shopping day (we stopped at 7 shops), snacks on the road and turnip greens at Cracker Barrel were fuel to keep him going. As well as, his new finds: an orange ball (free), a green dinosaur (.25), a wooden boat (free thanks to Mr. Tom), a basket to house his pink and purple crayons (.25), and 3 crayons at Cracker Barrel (free).

His treasures are on top of what he calls his "closet" (the white piece of furniture, which by the way pulls out to function as his desk as well.) A ship ($2 at a porch sale in Wilmington), his box where he keeps all of his finding from our time outside (feathers, rocks, shells, pecans, berries, sticks,, etc), and his bank (He loves hunting for coins with his magnifying glass).

Do you know your animals?

In the paper, there was a whole page of animals to identify.
Wyatt got half of them right (considering that he could not read the options, he did pretty well.) But he did have a few surprising answers.
The ones he knew: deer, turtle, squirrel, rabbit, snake, dragonfly, & cardinal (his favorite bird.)

The others: He did know that the sparrow was a bird, but did not know that it was specifically a sparrow. He also thought the bobcat and coyote were birds. He said the turkey was a duck. And he called the chicken a zebra (in his defense it was a striped chicken.)

My second favorite of his answers was that the raccoon was a monkey.
And my favorite of all of his answers: the alligator was a triceratops.
